ALL ABOARD!! for a 125-Mile “Grand Circle” Rail Tour

Touching Summit, Portage, Stark, Wayne and Medina Counties
Originating and Ending in Medina, Ohio

Saturday, June 7th, 2008

Our five-county rail cruise leaves Medina at 9:30am eastward toward Akron, crossing the impressive bridge over Route 57 and the River Styx, continuing on past Copley and Fairlawn, then entering the City of Akron on a high railroad bridge spanning the Cascade Locks of the Ohio and Erie Canal.

After crossing Akron’s downtown Main Street, the tracks descend into and through the large Brittain Road rail yards, then curve through Mogadore where we join the railroad’s Cleveland Division and head South for the run to Hartville, passing some interesting sights such as the shore of Wingfoot Lake and its Goodyear Blimp hangar across the waters.

After passing through Hartville, we proceed southbound toward Canton, past Middle Branch, then wind our way through downtown Canton and on past Navarre to Harmon, where we join the Pittsburgh to Bellevue main line and start northwestward through the northern area of Ohio’s largest Amish area via Brewster, Kidron, Orrville and Smithville to Spencer, about 16 miles west of Medina. Here the train is reversed and proceeds eastward for an estimated 6:30pm arrival back in Medina.

The trip from Hartville to Medina is an interesting, winding route of about 85 miles by rail – more than twice the distance of the direct route followed by the morning’s journey between Medina and Hartville.
