Midwest to Conduct Online Classes

Along with having to cancel our weekly work sessions at the roundhouse it was also necessary to cancel all of the on site classes that had been scheduled to take place after the closing. With the success that the Board of Trustees is having in holding their weekly meetings on line using the Zoom app, Midwest President Steve Emling decided to look into presenting some classes on line. Attendees will get the same credit for the class that they would if they had attended in person. Those interested need to register on line so they can be sent an invitation to the meeting.

The first class scheduled is the Air Brake Class which is a necessity for any members interested in becoming brakemen. The class will be broken down into two sessions of one to one and a half hours each and will take place on Tuesday April 28th and Wednesday April 29th. Both sessions are scheduled to begin at 7:00 pm. This class is open to Midwest members only.

The next class will be the Rules Class which is scheduled for Wednesday May 6th at 7:00 pm. This class is a requirement for anyone interested in becoming part of the operating crew and also is only open to members.

Steam 101 is scheduled for Wednesday May 13th, again, at 7:00 pm. This class is open to anyone interested in learning the basics of how a steam powered locomotive works.

These classes will all take place online using the Zoom app. The app can be downloaded for free and should be downloaded well in advance of the scheduled meeting times. Watch for emails and social media posts for sign up information. Once signed up, you will receive an emailed invitation to join the class just prior to class time. The email will include a link that will take you to the Zoom meeting. Click on the link and follow the prompts.

We are hoping for a good response for these classes and with their anticipated success additional classes will be scheduled for the future.
