The last open houses of the year are history and by all accounts were a huge success. The Saturday open houses held on November 24th and December 1st were attended by the largest numbers of visitors of the year with totals of 580 for the first followed by 520 for the second. The attendees consisting of adults and children included some employees of Lincoln Electric that were invited as a thank you for all of the services donated to Midwest by the company for ongoing projects.
The visitors who braved the cold and rainy weather over both weekends were given an abbreviated tour of the Historic B & O Roundhouse and yard due to the condition of the ground resulting from the inclement weather.
The highlight of the tour however, was the visit with Santa, who along with one of his elves was available to guests of all ages to share their Christmas wishes and photo opportunities in a heated caboose. He also presented the children with cookies and a memento of their visit.
The dates of the first open houses of 2019 have not yet been determined but like this year, will include a visit from the Easter Bunny. Look for next year's open house dates and other events to be announced in January's newsletter.
